Asman Arianto Natural
This is our first coffee from Indonesia. It is a beautiful natural processed coffee from Aceh Tengah in North Sumatra. The producer of this coffee, Asman Arianto, has been living in Aceh Tengah since 1988. After working in coffee production for a while, Asman aimed to unite several farmers by forming the Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative. The cooperative offers the farmers a more sustainable life in which they get paid premium for their efforts and they are given constant support in raising the quality of their farming standards. Almost all the farms in Sumatra are small, between 0.5 to 2.5 hectares.
This coffee stood out to us on the cupping table because it defied what we used to know about Indonesian coffee. Indonesia has had a long history with coffee production however it was previously dismissed or overlooked in the specialty coffee market. Now things have changed with better farming practices and processing methods. This coffee has a complex malic and tropical acidity and a juicy body finish. It not only suits filter, but would be very fitting for a modern espresso.
